The Weimaraner is a truly versatile breed. Originally breed to track deer and other game, the modern Weimaraner takes part in many different activities, from showing and gundog work to agility and canicross.

The most popular activity is showing. There are many open and championship shows taking place around the country with classes for Weimaraners.  Each year, the WCGB runs an open show in April and a championship show in September.  The highlight of ther year for many exhibitors is Crufts which takes place at the NEC in early March.This is a great show to visit to meet breeders and learn more about the breed. Owners interested in showing can join a local ringcraft class to learn the necessary skills.

Many Weimaraners are worked on local shoots where they beat and pick up game. They are also used to track deer. On the competitive side, Weimaraners are trained to compete in field trials, pointing tests and gundog working tests. With their excellent sense of smell, Weimaraners are competing in tracking and scentwork too. Many clubs run training classes, details of which can be found on their websites.

Agility in an increasingly popular activity for this breed, something at which the Weimaraner excels as it combines its athleticism with its intelligence.  Other owners are taking up hoopers, canicross, and more.
